“Many ideas come to my mind while I am working…It is not easy for me to develop an idea when I am not actually working. I think of myself as being led by unexpected forces. If it isn’t a surprise, there is something wrong…. I discover art, I don’t create it.” - Isamu Noguchi

Bio

I was introduced to carving stone in the early 1990’s at Art City in Ventura, California. I was fortunate to have met the sculptor Joanne Duby whose skill, patience and generosity fostered in me a love for the medium.

Professionally, I am a Physical Therapist and have been committed to improving peoples’ ability to interact with their environment in meaningful and creative ways. Carving stone has been my meaningful and creative pursuit for three decades.

It’s About the Stone

The attraction of stone carving is somewhat inexplicable when describing the logistics, effort, and expense of the process.

I believe that there is something transcendent about natural stone. The juxtaposition of finished and unfinished features provides the opportunity to view both the familiar and the hidden aspects of the natural world.
